OVERVIEW

Some Projects have clear requirements from the beginning of the project, and complete planning can be done (Initiation to Closure). Once the Plan is made, everyone follows the plan and completes all the activities, one after the other and delivers, one time, only one end product. This approach is known as Waterfall Project Management approach and is the most common and most in use project management approach.

On the other hand, lots of Projects do not have clear requirements at the beginning, client is not sure what they want, and a different iterative and incremental project management approach has to be applied. This approach is called Agile Project Management. Repeated increments of Products are delivered every week or every month, and the Customer and the Agile team gets more clarity about the project as they work on priority items, one by one.

Agile Project Management focusses on 4 Values, 12 Principles and Practices (Lean, Agile- Scrum, XP, DSDM, Crystal and more methodologies). Agile professionals understand the foundation of all the practices and uses them as it fits their project needs.

Lean thinking is the foundation of Agile methodologies. Lean believes in respecting your staff, letting them make decisions on the product and estimation. Leaders only act as Servant Leaders and they trust the staff (development team) to make all the discission related to the actual work. Requirements are always taken from the Clients, the client, and the team works together to find a solution, at speed and is done incrementally.
