Risk, Reputation and Reality: ESG in Today’s Supply Chains

Virtual Workshop, Saturday, April 18th 2026, 9am to 1pm EST

Workshop Objective

To give participants a clear, practical understanding of what ESG really means for modern supply chains, with a focus on risk, reputation and day‑to‑day decisions rather than theory. Through an interactive supplier scenario, live polls and a simple 30‑day challenge, attendees will see how ESG shows up in real supply chain choices and what that means for their own context.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  1. Explain ESG in Supply Chain Language
Describe how environmental, social and governance topics connect to sourcing, production, logistics and supplier relationships
  2. Recognize Key ESG Expectations in Canada and Beyond
Understand that Canadian rules on topics like human rights and climate sit within a wider global trend toward more transparency and accountability in supply chains
  3. See How ESG Affects Supplier Decisions
Experience how information about labour practices, environmental impact or governance can change the “best” supplier choice in a realistic scenario
  4. Understand the Cost of Getting ESG Wrong
Appreciate how weak ESG practices can lead to financial, reputational and operational consequences, and why prevention is usually cheaper than reaction
  5. Apply ESG Concepts in the Next 30 Days
Use a simple 30‑day challenge to spot environmental and social issues in their own organization and outline small, practical ideas to address them

Workshop Outline

I. Welcome & Scene‑Setting

  • Quick polls to understand the audience and their main ESG questions
  • Plain‑language overview of ESG in supply chains: what it is, what it is not, and why it is gaining importance

II. ESG Rules and Standards – The Essentials

  • High‑level view of how Canadian requirements on topics such as labour and climate are evolving
  • Short tour of the main international ESG standards and frameworks that large companies and their suppliers increasingly refer to (for example, global reporting and due‑diligence frameworks)

III. The “Supplier Squeeze” Scenario

  • Live, poll‑based exercise where participants choose between different suppliers with varying cost, speed and ESG profiles
  • Mid‑exercise updates introduce new information and force participants to reconsider their choices
  • Debrief linking the scenario to risk, reputation and practical supply‑chain decision making

IV. Practical ESG Tools for Supply Chains

  • Simple ways to embed ESG into everyday supply‑chain activities (e.g., basic questions to ask suppliers, simple metrics to track, ideas to discuss with internal teams)
  • Short Q&A focused on content and implementation, not on careers

V. The 30‑Day Green Chain Challenge

  • Introduction of a light, optional 30‑day challenge with two tracks: Tailored to professionals in organizations
  • Each track includes small weekly tasks to observe, document and suggest improvements on both environmental and social aspects of supply chains
  • Participants choose their track and commit to one action for the first week

Before the Workshop

  • Format: Online session with polls, chat and Q&A
  • Technical Requirements: Stable internet connection and a computer or tablet

Who Should Attend

  • Early and mid career professionals working in manufacturing, logistics, procurement or related areas
  • Anyone curious about how ESG is changing supply‑chain expectations and decisions
